Mysterious trends and fads

From Google Trends, a popularity chart of social change buzz words over time (in Australia).

Noticeable:

...the decline of "environmental education" and (thankfully) "capacity building";

...the rise and rise of "social marketing";

...the steady popularity of "behaviour change";

...the strange invisibility of "diffusion of innovations" (arguably the only one of these buzz words that represents a coherent body of knowledge!)

1 comment:

  1. The currently dominant meaning of "social marketing" refers to the social web (aka web 2.0, with Facebook and Twitter as iconic instances).

    Diffusion of innovations (Rogers, Bass) is rarely used in practice. The more recent buzzword probably being "change management", although it is fading as well. But "sustainability" is still on the rise (http://www.google.com/trends?q=%22diffusion+of+innovations%22,+%22change+management%22,+%22sustainability%22&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=1)
